What was the Blitz? The Blitz happened in WW2. The Blitz was the bombing of Britain by Nazi Germany between September 1940 and May It was one of the most terrifying moments of the Second World War.

What happened during the Blitz?
Every night the Germans in their planes took to the sky and dropped bombs. They tried to bomb factories because they knew that Britain was making things for people in the army and they didn’t want to lose the war. Also they dropped bombs into lakes and rivers so it would flood!

Children being evacuated
This is a picture of children waiting at the train station to go to the countryside because being in the city was too dangerous at the time. If you really wanted to keep your child with you then you could.
5
The Black out At night you had to switch your lights off because enemy forces would know that there were people below them and they could drop their bombs. ARP wardens patrolled the streets at night to make sure nobody had their lights on. Because all the street lamps were off and cars could not have their lights on there were a lot of car accidents.

The end of the Blitz In May 1941 Germany needed more soldiers and weapons to fight Russia so the bombing of England was reduced. People still were not safe because bombing did continue but not as intense as during the Blitz. It was one of Britain’s darkest hours.
