3 ABOUT GANDHIGRAM RURAL INSTITUTE
It has uniqueness of being the first rural university in the country Rich experience in Extension, Research and Teaching Faculties in the area of Physical-Biological-Chemical Sciences, Social Sciences, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry , Rural Development and Extension, Health and Sanitation, Technology Rural Extension as major thrust area [separate Department linked with lifelong learning]

4 Inter and Multi-disciplinary Approach in Academic, Research and Out-reach Programmes
Well-built linkage and collaboration among Faculties and Departments Rich experience in organizing vocational training programmes for Skill Development Prime focus on Women, Non-student Youth, School dropouts, Artisans and Farmers Fourteen Extension Centers in service villages Two Village Extension Resource Centres at remote areas to cater the cluster of villages

6 Number of Students Admission process started in the month of May- June 2015 Campaign in the near by School - through personal contact, distribution of hand bills and Banner Received about 85 applications and 40 students have been admitted Caste composition of students BC – 16; SC -10 and MBC – 14 Only one female student – she with workshop background Only Ten Students are from Urban background and Remaining 30 students are Rural area

7 Background of the Students
Most of the students completed Higher Secondary under regular basis; passed out in 2015 Two Students are from National Open Schooling System; completed Senior Secondary Subject background 22 are with Science subject 11 are with Social Science subject 7 are from Vocational subject Remaining Applicants will be admitted into Yamaha Training School

8 Curriculum Development
October Preparatory Workshop with Industry Representatives Team of Professor connected with Training and Extension in GRI worked on Operational Guidelines and also Structure and content of the course Later BoS meeting held in December 2014 Academic Council has approved in January 2015

One-Year Diploma Course in Two Wheeler Mechanism and Maintenance First Semester :- Four Papers covering the Basics , Assemblies and Major System Two Wheeler and its Maintenance One Paper on Life Skills and Communication Second Semester:- Industry Placement for Hands-On-Experience

11 Teaching and Training Methodology
Blend of classroom sessions, video-show Practical sessions for hands-on-experience Exposure visit to Automobile workshop and Laboratory Core Faculty, Industry Faculty, Retired Professor Social Workers are teaching

12 Duration of Teaching &Training
First Semester – first batch - Six working days in a Week Following CBCS Class timings – 9.30 am to 5.15 pm [with an hour lunch break] Each session One-and –half an hour duration In a week – 24 sessions - Theory classes for technical aspect – 10 sessions Practical Classes – 11 sessions [including 2 for Video show and Discussion ; One for Library Life Skills and Communication – 3 sessions

13 Industry Partners Yamaha Motor India Sales Private Ltd – major partner – signed MoU in March 2015 Collaboration for set-up a state-art workshop for two wheeler Staff of the Community College is being trained at Yamaha Training Academy, Bangalore Signed MoU with private Industrial Training Institutes Linkage with Two Wheeler Dealers and Service Stations in Dindigul and nearby places Will be signing MoU with an Engineering College

14 MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING - MOU
Yamaha Motor India Sales Private Ltd, New Delhi - Set-up a Training School in the line of Community College Shiva Industrial Training Institute, Dindigul VOC Industrial Training Institute, Gandhigram Moorthy Electronics, Chinnalapatti We will be signing MOU with few Partners in Dindigul in a month or two

17 Linkage at National Level
Since it is batch , we are in the process of establishing linkage with NSQF, NSDC, Sector Skill Council Based on the experience gained in the current year, we will contact these Institutions very soon

18 National Symposium – March 2015
National Symposium on Emerging Policies and Strategizes for Vocational Education and Training held on  16-17 March 2015 Jointly organized by the Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension and Community College of GRI; In Collaboration with Indian Adult Education Association , New Delhi It was to Discuss the existing National Policies and Strategies on Vocational Education; Deliberate the various aspects of existing best practices in vocational education; and Reflect on the existing framework of Policies and Strategies to achieve the “employability” at large.
