PSD: MMLT – Challenge 2 This challenge requires you to create a collage with commentary showing a variety of recreational activities available for young people and defining the term ‘recreation’. In order to do this we need to… Look at definitions of ‘recreation’. Look at recreational activities. Look at what is meant by ‘collage’.
2
Recreation – from Wikipedia
Recreation is an activity of leisure, leisure being discretionary time. The "need to do something for recreation" seems to be an essential element of human biology and psychology. Recreational activities are often done for enjoyment, amusement, or pleasure and are considered to be "fun". The term "recreation" implies participation to be healthy, refreshing mind and body.
3
Recreation – more definitions
An activity that diverts, amuses or stimulates. Activity that refreshes and recreates. Activity that renews your health and spirits through enjoyment and relaxation. Can you come up with a definition in your own words?

What is a Collage? A collage is a collection of pictures put together.
Sometimes pictures touch each other or even overlap, so that there are no spaces. Sometimes there are spaces between pictures but there is still a lot of pictures on the page. Pictures can be arranged in straight lines or at angles. Collages can have a commentary (words) added which is what you have to do for this challenge!
7
Collage – Example 1 Next to each other with no gaps and straight alignment
8
Collage – Example 2 Some gaps and misaligned
9
Collage – Example 3 Overlapping and forming a shape itself
10
Putting a collage together
Consider the title – will it go centrally in the middle of the page or will it go at the top or the bottom? Find lots of pictures – can you group them in any way – individual activities, those done with others / outdoor activities or indoor activities…? Add appropriate commentary (per group of pictures?)
11
Basic Example… (needs lots more pictures!)
Recreational Activities for Young People Some activities can be solitary Recreation is spare time spent in doing activities you like and make you feel good. Some are outdoor activities Some are indoor activities Some activities can be done with others
