3 PARTICIPATION Burundi, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, (Madagascar), Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zambia, (Rwanda) and Uganda (13)

4 LANGUAGE: English/French (simultaneous interpretation)

5 MAJOR THEMES Themes of the workshops are rice, aquaculture, market access and small-scale irrigation.

6 PROJECT OBJECTIVES Sharing of knowledge accumulated in Asia and Africa (mainly from previous Japanese assistance) so as to enhance capacity building: key technologies in rice and aquaculture.

7 PROJECT OBJECTIVES The project contributes to the initiative of Coalition for African Rice Development (CARD) which is a initiative of both Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) expressed at the Fourth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD IV).

8 PROJECT OBJECTIVES The project is financed by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan and implemented by close cooperation with JICA. ¨National Rice Development Strategy¨ of CARD is one of the highlight in the workshop.

9 The objectives of previous and this workshop:
review the current situations and constraints of the development and the market access of rice and aquaculture in each country; share key technologies and programmes to be applied to Sub Sahara Africa countries; support to identify specific technical areas constraints for workshop after mid-2009and propose project idea to donors.

10 Follow up to November 2008 workshops
National workshops with all major stakeholders financed by the project were held in order to share and discuss the outcome of the workshop and to identify specific technical areas and constraints. Last workshop information can be seen at

2. Presentations on key technologies and programmes 3. Recommendations and Conclusions of both Regional and National Workshops

12 Future activities of the project
Organization of National Workshops is encouraged with a support from the project for those countries which could not organize it. Announcement will be sent to FAOR.

13 Future activities of the project
Next workshop will be organized after September 2009 including local level participants in the host country for capacity building on specific technical areas and constraints in line with previous and this workshop recommendations and conclusions. Project ideas developed and proposed in the workshops would be sent to the donors officially.

Each country is requested to have "Power Point" presentation where as in the agenda. A presenter should be designated among each country delegation.

The workshop will adopt the recommendations and conclusions in the afternoon of Thursday, 16 April.
