Division of the Novel Novel was about 800 pages in total.
First 300 pages went over his relationships with his childhood, education, career, relationships, and general accomplishments. Next 400 pages were about his most well known creations and analyzed them extremely well. (Including Rhapsody in Blue, Porgy and Bess, and more) Final 100 pages were all notes, citations, and information on the novel. The book cited virtually all of its information.

Unique Points References other biographies at certain points, where information differed among biographies; e.g. Some biographies claim that his mother was less supportive of his musical career when he was a child, where most of what Gershwin said in interviews suggested that his mother actually supported him all along. Author seems to be very impartial and credible, backing up all of his claims. Author described every single person Gershwin was close to, and even went into their life and described how they came to be a part of Gershwin’s life.
