1 The chemicals of life Fats Sugar Proteins DNA Carbohydrates
Fats are also know as lipids. Like carbohydrates, fats contain only three kinds of atom-carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. A fat molecule is made of four smaller molecules joined together. One of these is glycerol. Attached to the glycerol are three long molecules called fatty acid. Fats are insoluble in water. Fats that are liquid at room temperature are called oils. The simplest kinds of carbohydrates are the simple sugar or monosaccharides. Glucose is a simple sugar. A glucose molecule is made of six carbon atoms jointed in a ring, with the hydrogen and oxygen atoms pointing out from and into the ring. Monosaccharides disaccharide sweet and solubility polysaccharide: not sweet and solubility Fats Sugar Carbohydrates Carbohydrates include starches and sugars. Their molecules contain three kinds of atom- carbon(c), hydrogen(h) and oxygen(o). A carbohydrates molecule has about twice as many hydrogen atom as carbon or oxygen atoms Proteins molecules contain some kinds of atoms which carbohydrates and fat do not. As well as carbon, hydrogen and oxygen, they also contain nitrogen(n) And small amount of sulfer. Like polysaccharide, proteins molecules are made of long chains of smaller molecules jointed end to end. These smaller molecules are called amino acid . Proteins The chemicals of life DNA What are you made of Other reason we need water 1.Plasma , the liquid part of the blood ,contain a lots of water, so that substances like glucose can dissolve in it. These dissolved substances are transported around the body 2.Water is also need to dissolve enzymes and nutrient in the alimentary canal so that digestion can take places./ DNA stand for deoxyribonucleic, it the chemical that makes up our genus and chromosomes. It’s the material that we inherit from our parents, which gives us many of our characteristcs. The bodies of all the living things are made of many different kinds of chemicals. Most of our bodies are made up of water. We also contain carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. These substances are what our cells are made of. Each of them is vital of life.
