Cross disciplinary definition of multidisciplinary object
Complex engineering problems need definitions which require crossing discipline boundaries Recent engineering objects incorporate closely connected functionality from various fundamental and engineering discipline areas. Cooperation of disciplines is required in the same engineering task. Real integration of engineering disciplines in definition of a single model should be realized. Engineers define multidisciplinary object by cooperation of various disciplines. Single engineering task incorporates knowledge and skills from several disciplines. Some basics of cross disciplinary product definition is understood on the example of printed circuit board. László Horváth UÓ-JNFI-IAM
5
Printed circuit design
Electronic circuit definition. Printed circuit board definition including part placing. Routing László Horváth UÓ-JNFI-IAM
6
Printed circuit board definition
Panel behavior is added to shape model. Physical description of the board and the locations of components placed on the board. Circuit board geometry is defined in mechanical context Represented as a tabulated solid in the context of closed contour. Tabulated solid is recognized as panel. Full multidisciplinary integration is being established. Creation and management of electronic part catalogs are inevitable in this area of engineering Typical conventional solution is data import and export between mechanical and electrical definition using Intermediate Data Format (IDF). Printed circuit board definition – board form features
Board form features can be created before or after definition of the board behavior on geometry. László Horváth UÓ-JNFI-IAM

11
Printed circuit board definition – pattern
Pattern of hole and constraint area. Often used pattern used for mounting a component Moving or deleting a component that contextual with a pattern modifies the pattern. Pattern of Pattern László Horváth UÓ-JNFI-IAM

Constraint area definition
Spatial and technological constraint areas are defined Region related definitions in Dassault modeling (representative): ROUTE OUTLINE : an area where routing electrical connections is allowed PLACE_OUTLINE: an area where component placing is allowed OTHER_OUTLINE: other area type defined by an outline, cutouts and a thickness VIA_KEEPOUT: an area where via placing is forbidden PLACE_KEEPOUT: a mechanical space reservation where the component height is limited PLACE_REGION: an area where placing is limited to component of certain types ROUTE_KEEPOUT: an area where routing electrical connections is forbidden László Horváth UÓ-JNFI-IAM

Electrical and mechanical components
Shape model gains electrical or mechanical behavior. Shape model gains electrical or mechanical behavior. Technological properties are defined for component: Resistance Capacitance Power Tolerance Voltage Etc. Mount type is important information: leg mount, surface mount components. 19
Some words about definition of routes
Electrical conductors are needed to connect placed components. Design rules have to be satisfied in accordance with active element manufacturer specifications. Simulation for design rules. Optimization of routes. E. g. Shortest route considering obstacles and design rules. Different design rules at layers on the board are considered László Horváth UÓ-JNFI-IAM
