Optical Engineering What is an optical engineer?
Optical engineers aim to design and build devices that make light do something useful. Examples of optical instruments: Lenses, microscopes, telescopes, lasers, fiber-optics, satellite communication, optical discs (CDs, DVDs), defense systems, optical sensors What is an engineer? An engineer creates solutions to problems What do engineers do? What types of engineers are there? Have each table list as many different types of engineers and things engineers make Have each table say one thing and go around until all ideas are exausted Fill in missing items Electrical- marykate Mechanical- rebekah BME- amy Chemical- Tim Materials- christine Petroleum Civil Industrial Aeronautical Nuclear- Angela Computer Agricultural- John Processing Environmental Structural Aerospace Engineering management Computer science Quality engineer

Optical Engineering Medical Applications:
Average salary: $70, ,000. Medical Applications: Tumor ablation Blood coagulation LASIK surgery Pulse oximetry Jaundice treatment Cancer detection Electrical and Computer Engineering are grouped together because they are very similar degrees, and students in these majors take many of the same classes. What would you do without your cell phone, computer, TV, radio, mp3 player?? Electrical and computer engineers are largely responsible for these technologies! Electrical and computer engineers do jobs such as generating and distributing the electricity (POWER), designing and building devices (ELECTRONICS), building software that goes into these devices (SOFTWARE), and communications to these devices (WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS). There are even more things that electrical and computer engineers can do! They are responsible for many aspects of imaging systems, medical diagnostics, sensors, robotics, microprocessors, automobiles, weather radars, and military systems, just to name a few.
