3 SPRINT TO SOLUTIONS The sprint is a process for answering critical business questions through design, prototyping, and testing ideas. Developed at Google Ventures, it’s a “greatest hits” of business strategy, innovation, behavior science, design thinking, and more—packaged into a battle-tested process that any team can use.

4 CONVENTIONAL DESIGN PROCESS
Costly The longer the process takes, the more resources it requires Mixed Results Delays feedback until the end of the process Rushed Product Prototype is only created after much debate, which delays process and rushes final product

5 MODERN DESIGN PROCESS

6 SIMPLIFIED MODERN DESIGN PROCESS
Prototype Test 30 day public comment period Ries promotes a human centered design - Idea, Build, Launch, Learn where Learn allows you to take market / user feedback through usability testing to enhance your service offering

7 HOW FAR DO WE GO?

8 OUR SPRINT

9 STEP 1: DEFINE THE CHALLENGE (30 MIN)
As a group, discuss the following: What is limiting FBISD’s ability to fulfill its Mission, Vision, and Core Beliefs? What did the survey results tell us? Articulate three “How might we” questions: How might we How might we How might we. . . GOAL: At the end of the 30 minutes, articulate a challenge your group will attempt to solve.

10 STEP 2: GET INSPIRED (30 MIN)
Inspire solutions to the challenge you’ve identified through the following: Discuss what they saw in the example DOI plans from other districts. Review Debbie’s table and list of possible examples and discuss which may apply to this challenge. Read blogs from big thinkers in education, particularly those who are knowledgeable about FBISD’s challenges. Then read those who disagree in the comments. Review board notes, check twitter feeds with hashtags related to FBISD. Visit an unexpected place: Brainstorm some organizations/companies/entities that inspire the feelings a successful school district should. GOAL: By the end of the 30 minutes, identify your most inspiring discoveries.

11 STEP 3: IDEATION (25 MIN) Brainstorm solutions using one or more of the following strategies: Freewrite - list as many ideas as you can; no judgement allowed Map it - map out a process related to the challenge you’ve identified; put a star next to parts of the map where a solution is needed Cubing - describe the challenge from six different points of view GOAL: By the end of the 25 minutes, choose an idea you want to prototype.

12 STEP 4: BRING YOUR IDEAS TO LIFE (40 MIN)
Build a plan for the idea you’ve chosen, which should include: The what - What, exactly, is the solution? The how - How does that solution work? What exemptions from the education code (if any) this solution requires Any examples or prototypes needed to make it real enough GOAL: If you have time, share your plan with another group and ask for feedback.

13 4:30 SANITY CHECK

14 STEP 5: ITERATION (40 MIN) Prepare a 15-minute presentation describing your solution, incorporating feedback from other committee members. The presentation should include: A description of the challenge your group decided to solve Description of the solution, including the what and the how What exemptions from the education code (if any) this solution requires Rationale for those exemptions, including the inspiration behind the solution Any examples needed to make the solution real enough Necessary considerations and/or safeguards GOAL: Share these presentations with the rest of the committee at our next meeting.l

15 TIPS FOR SUCCESS The process will feel uncomfortable at times; push through; don’t let it paralyze you Use the timelines to keep you moving, but don’t let it stress you out; take the time you need Divide and conquer when you can Take breaks as needed
