It’s In The Bag (a.k.a. An update after nearly 1 year with STAT Courier…) Stephen Strohl Associate Director, Member Services & Scott Peterson Systems Librarian
2
We’ve come a long way… To Recap: 1st Choice had been our courier 7+ years Changeover to STAT Courier on July 1, 2015 MOBIUS continues to evolve, especially outside Missouri
3
Looking back to last year…

We now have a new, MOBIUS managed courier route in Iowa – a closed loop: RiverShare Libraries in Iowa: Bettendorf Public Library Clinton Community College Clinton Public Library Davenport Public Library Kaplan University LeClaire Community Library Muscatine Community College Musser Public Library Scott Community College
9
This year, so far…and we’re not done yet!
A second MOBIUS managed courier route is coming in Iowa – a closed loop July 1: Iowa Library Alliance – across the entire state
10
This year, so far…and we’re not done yet!
Coming soon – a MOBIUS connection with Altoona Public (Polaris/INN-Reach)
11
So, what does this mean for you?
Exchange materials via INN-Reach… To more member libraries in Missouri To new members in Texas (Southwestern Baptist) and Iowa (Palmer) Two new courier routes in Iowa that are revenue generating opportunities for MOBIUS – with a planned link between Iowa & Missouri that should broaden the number of libraries we reach More savings than ever before!
12
ILL vs. INN-Reach or BOTH
Patron-requested borrowing increases the volume significantly over traditional ILL Added benefit of an expanded courier network is that the more you can use the network for shipping, the lower your costs will be
14
Previously When you thought about courier-related issues, mainly you put the tote into transit and hoped your materials made it to its intended destination. That’s changing
15
New Labels – STAT Courier End-To-End
16
New Labels – MOBIUS to non-MOBIUS
17
Datatrac – Big Step Forward
Web-based utility that provides real-time tracking Information captured via a barcode scan Each driver should carry a smartphone equipped with the Datatrac app Barcodes are scanned & geocoded timestamped Barcodes are scanned again upon delivery
18
Datatrac More Accountability Libraries are able to access, manage, and check on/track materials when STAT deliveries end-to-end
19
Datatrac More Details Signatures may be obtained via the smartphone Can login and monitor progress in real time on the map
20
What Do We Know So Far? Growing Pains: We anticipated 3-6 months to completely establish a new system We need system checks for scanning – we need data! New routes & new processes including some overnight service But anecdotally, we have fewer lost/missing materials and fewer claims But what do we know & what about reports?
21
The Totals* (number of bags): January 7,526 February 8,095 March 8,082
April 6,152 May 5,560 Totals 35,415 *Many things; shipped totes, missing scans, etc… are not included here
29
Where Do We Go From Here (Short Term)?
Action Items: Tulsa City-County is starting to scan More accountability from STAT Courier on scanning (no gaps in coverage) Connection between Iowa & Missouri Data from Datatrac will be available in a more end-user friendly format
30
Where Do We Go From Here (Big Picture)?
Ultimate goal is to drive down the cost of traditional ILL About that courier connection with Illinois-over 1800 stops… Continued dialogue with the Kansas Library Express We continue to make outreach efforts within the reach of our geographic footprint: South to Texas; North up to Iowa and all along our contiguous borders. We continue to add new member libraries, which helps everyone
