5. Language and cultural barriers
I am not native english speaker
I do have HORRIBLE estonian accent
I mess up with tenses, forewords, grammar etc.
I have tendency to pronounce numbers and acronyms in estonian
Conclusion: if I was ununderstandable ASK AT ONCE. I try to explain in other words.
REALLY: I demand it! If my english was bad or you did not understand something, interfere and ask at once!
Works both ways: If I do not understand your english, I ask you to repeat (reeeeeeeeallllly slowly). Don't feel offended.

6. Structure Lectures (I explain stuff)
Excercises – practical tasks with easy-to-follow step- by-step instructions. Practicing themes discussed in lectures.
Labs – same as exercises, except no step-by-step instructions. You have to find all the necessary information by yourself (Though there is some hints) and solve the problems independedly.

Labs are your way to grade!

7. Comprehensive examination
You get graded by showing that you have some practical skills
Comprehensive examination means that you have to work CONTINOUSLY thorough the semester.
Positive: you can not fail if you work hard.
Labs are MANDATORY
Due dates are not there for fun
Independent Labs are graded as follows P – Passed , F – failed (usually skipped)
P+ (Excellent job)
P (it works)
P- (barely works)
You will not Grade if all your labs are P- !!!
Team Lab on real hardware (will be explained in detail later)
Additionally you you have to do one 5-minute presentation about IT Infra as teamwork (this task is explained in details on later lectures)
Good News : very few people are failed over the years. Reason was always – skipping the labs.

8. Premises Basic understanding how OS and services work
Basic Linux shell experience
Keep in mind that this course is based on Linux!
Basic understanding how TCP/IP networking works
We DO repeat some (critical) stuff you learned previously (but not all)

9. It's good in IT Infra land?
IT infra admin is accountable for:
Installing servers
set up or configure services
understand and configure networks
responsible for security and reliability
documenting system
In real life:
you have to manage systems set up by somebody else
must understand specifics of different IT systems
Practically: you have no clue (documentation) and you have to figure everything out by yourself (kõik on loogiline)

10. It's good in IT Infra land!
Why we want to be here
your knowledge are generic (universal)
you do not meet end-user very often
intresting projects and developments
things just work! (less maintenance hassle and administrative overhead)

11. What we do here
More important than skills and knowledge is Right Way To Think (Zen, Dao)
I can not MAKE you a good Infra Admin, I can only help you on the path of getting good Admin
Proactive not ReActive
Planning and testing
Final testing on production (dependencies!)
Documenting
Automating
Good problem solving and debugging skills

12. Dao II Unfortunately: You do not read the manual carefully
You read, but do not THINK
Thinking „in the box“
You trust untrostworthy information sources
You „shoot from the hip“
You forget that as administrator (root) your power over the system is ABSOLUTE and even smallest slip of finger can be FATAL (to system)
You can not handle the stress
We try to get rid at least some of those bad habits. Prove me yourself!
