Interview Provides the employer a chance to evaluate the applicant
Provides the applicant an opportunity to find out more about the job and employer Applicant should prepare for an interview by Anticipating questions Forming answers that are clear and concise Discuss possible types of answers for interviews that would be clear and concise.

Interview Questions Use as an activity; as you review each of the interview questions, ask the students to briefly write down what their own answers would be. Later, have these students expand on what they have written.

Behavior-Based Interview
Prospective employee is asked to describe a specific situation from the past that demonstrates traits such as leadership or teamwork. The goal of behavior-based interview is to predict the future actions of the employee. Stress to the students that behavior-based interviews helps to predict the future actions of the employee.

Behavior-Based Interview
Techniques of a behavior-based interview questions include SHARE STAR PAR . Set up a mock behavior-based interview with three student volunteers using the three techniques.

SHARE S – describe a situation
H – describe any obstacles to your actions A – explain what you did (your actions) R – describe the results of your actions E – summarize the outcome with a positive evaluation

STAR S – describe the situation
T – describe the tasks you were asked (or asked) to do A – describe your actions that demonstrated leadership or teamwork R – describe the results of your actions

PAR P – describe the problem or task
A – describe the actions you took to solve the problem R – describe the results of your actions

Guidelines for the Interview
1. Know the name of the interviewer and his or her position within the organization. 2. Know about the organization and the position desired. 3. Bring all information regarding References Social security number Past employment Education

4. Present yourself for the interview in a positive and confident manner. 5. Arrive 5 minutes early for the appointment, not earlier or later. 6. Do not chew gum, eat candy, or smoke before or during the interview. 7. Wear appropriate clothing for the position desired. Be neat and clean.

8. Shake hands firmly with the interviewer when introduced. If you must introduce yourself, call the interviewer by title and name. 9. Remain standing until the interviewer asks you to sit down. 10. Place any personal items such as your purse on the floor. Keep a pencil and some paper at hand

11. Be enthusiastic but not overbearing. Answer all of the questions in a positive manner without criticizing yourself or others. 12. Think about each question before responding to it. Look at the interviewer when speaking. 13. After the interviewer has completed his or her questions, ask any questions that remain unanswered for you.

14. Thank the interviewer for his or her time. Ask when the decision regarding the position will be known.

Job Satisfaction One criterion for job satisfaction may be based on the employment opportunity to provide for the wants and needs of life: Personal budget Gross income/net income Savings Taxes Expenses Ask students what the difference is between gross and net income.

Continuing Education Continuing education is training, courses, and study that are completed after the health care worker begins to practice. Continuing education is required for the health care worker to continue to practice or be relicensed in many of the health care professions.
