I had an argument with my neighbourg in 1999 I DIDN’T HAVE an argument with my neighbourg in 1999 WHEN DID you HAVE an argument with your neighbourg ? First day Peter went out with Sally was in New Year’s Eve. Peter DIDN’T GO OUT with Sally in New Year’s Eve WHEN DID Peter GO OUT with Sally for the first time? 11 FORM: have / has + past participle
Present Perfect Tense FORM: have / has + past participle Affirmative: I have seen the film before. She has seen the film before. Interrogative: Have you seen the film before? Has she seen the film before? Negative: They haven’t seen the film before. He hasn’t seen the film before.

12 Uses 1- Recent events: It is used to describe recent events without a definite time. The idea of time or place in the speaker’s mind makes the event recent. A TIME EXPRESSION may emphasize recentness: just, recently, lately Why are they so happy? They have just won a prize so they are really pleased

13 2- Personal experiences: It is used to express personal experiences, there is not a definite time given. The time expressions ever and never are very often used with this meaning I have never been to Japan. Have you ever been there?

14 3- It is used to express actions that started in the past and continue to the present, the time period is not finished. We use for and since with this meaning. We use for with periods of time and since with points of time. I haven’t eaten since yesterday morning. I am really hungry I haven’t drunk anything for two days. I am terribly thirsty

15 TIME EXPRESSIONS NEVER / EVER ALREADY / JUST YET / STILL FOR / SINCE

16 Have you ever….? The short answer is…
NEVER / EVER When we want to ask a question about something that happened at any time before now, we say: Have you ever….? Have you ever visited with your parent a place you really loved? Has she ever visited a place she really hated? Have you ever spoken with a famous person? The short answer is… Yes, I have. No, I haven’t Yes, she has. No, she hasn’t. You can also make the negation by using NEVER No, I have NEVER visited a place I hated

17 I have JUST watched the film I have ALREADY watched the film
ALREADY / JUST To emphasize the time that “thing” took place you can use YET, ALREADY, JUST, STILL JUST emphasises the idea of close to the present I've JUST spoken to Jane. She's not going to join us for supper tonight. ALREADY suggests that something has happened sooner than expected and again is linked with present time and therefore the present perfect: Do you want me to make the salad for supper tonight? ~ I've already made it. It's on the table POSITION I have JUST watched the film I have ALREADY watched the film

18 I haven’t watched the film YET I STILL haven’t watched the film
YET / STILL YET . (NEG. INT) I don't think you've met Rachel yet, have you? ~ No, I haven't. I've met a lot of your friends from work, but I've not met Rachel yet. ~ She's absolutely lovely. I'm sure you'll like her STILL. (NEG.) No, I haven't. I've met a lot of your friends from work, but I STILL have not met Rachel POSITION I haven’t watched the film YET I STILL haven’t watched the film

19 For example: I’ve studied at this school since last June.
FOR / SINCE With the words “for” and “since” to talk about something that began in the past and continues to now. For example: I’ve studied at this school since last June. She’s lived in West Palm Beach for 2 months SINCE + POINT IN TIME Use the present perfect with “since” + point in time (since 5:00, since Monday, since 1994) to show when something started. FOR + LENGTH OF TIME Use the Present perfect with “for” + length of time (for ten minutes, for two weeks, for years, for a long time) to show how long a present condition has lasted.
