Homework Homework in 3rd grade is sent home on a regular basis focusing on Math & Reading. Homework typically consists of finishing in-class assignments or additional practice on a skill we are learning in class. Third graders are also expected to read 20 minutes per night in a book of their choosing. Research has shown daily independent reading to be one of the most important factors in predicting student success in school. Please encourage your child to read daily, and ask questions about what he/she is reading!

Orton-Gillingham: A Methodology for Teaching Reading & Spelling to ALL Students!
Whole class & small group lessons Differentiation in reading and spelling based on student ability No “spelling tests.” As we teach a phonics rule or pattern, students will read & spell words with that rule or pattern. Assessment through dictation and application of phonics rule/pattern. (ex. –tch rule) These words do not need to be memorized. Trick words: words that do not follow a rule or pattern. MUST BE MEMORIZED for reading and spelling. 3 Trick words will be introduced at a time and will be memorized for spelling and reading. (ex: favorite) Your donations at work.
