Course Description The study of English-language film has emerged in recent years a viable alternative可行的选择 or complementary option补充的选项 to literature. The study of film can help students to understand and use the spoken language in a lively, flexible, and direct way. It can also awaken student’s interest in the most pertinent相关的aspects of contemporary Western societies and culture.

Course Description In short, the course aims at inspiring students to pursue their interest in the English language and Western culture through the medium of cinema.

Course Objectives The aim of the course is to introduce students to the discipline of “film studies” as it applies to films from English-speaking countries, and to demonstrate how methods derived from that discipline can be used to explain and interpret some popular and well-known films.

Class Procedures 1. A 5-member group makes a 30-minutes presentation on the assigned movie. 2. Other students ask questions about the presentation given by the 5 students. 3. Teacher supplements and extends the analysis. 4. Bonus time (role-play, dubbing, sing a song etc.). 5. Watch supplementary videos and discuss.

Grading Final exam (40%) Average score(60%) 1. Edit a play 20%
2. Film review & Questions 20% Average score(60%) 1. Attendance 5% 2. Group presentation 15% (in 5-member group ) 3. Movie dubbing % 电影趣配音 20 4. In-class performance (课堂表现) 10% (discussion, ask & answer questions) 5. Bonus time % (role-play, dubbing, sing a song etc.).
