3 Aims of the day To support teachers, lecturers and assessors in their understanding of national standards by: reviewing candidate evidence discussing this evidence and associated Marking Instructions with colleagues asking questions and seeking clarification about national standards

4 Project Overview The project requires candidates to demonstrate challenge and application by demonstrating skills, knowledge and understanding within the context of carrying out research into a current food issue. The topic chosen for the project may be related to an area candidates have studied in the units of the course, but they are free to research any appropriate topic based on a current scientific, sociological or technological food issue. An overview of the process to be undertaken by the candidate is shown in the table below: Stag

5 Analysis and evaluation
Project Overview The project is broken down into three sections Stage 1 Project proposal 1(a) Carry out a literature review to gather information about the chosen topic. 1(b) Provide a research question based on the results of the literature review. 1(c) Outline the plan for research into the identified research question. 2 Research 2(a) Communicate relevant results of research clearly. 2(b) Provide sufficient relevant information for analysis. 2(c) Present results logically and appropriately referenced 3 Analysis and evaluation 3(a) Analyse the results from the research undertaken. 3(b) Draw conclusions based on the results of the analysis. 3(c) Evaluate the research process

6 Workshop 1 – Project Use the Marking Instructions to review pieces of candidate evidence at certain stages of the project. Use the marking grid provided to note the mark awarded and add comments about why you would award those marks.

7 Question Paper Overview
The 2016 paper contained four questions all worth 10 mark. Candidates were expected to attempt all questions. The questions were sampled from both units of the course. In the question paper, the following command words were used: Explain, Evaluate and Analyse

8 Workshop 2 – Question Paper
Use the Marking Instructions to review the three pieces of candidate evidence. On the candidate evidence, mark where you would award the marks. Pay particular attention to looking for developed answers.
