Struck disease Definition
This is an acute and fatal enterotoxaemia affecting adult sheep characterized by sudden death without obvious signs. Cause Cl.perfringens type C

Pathogenesis Occurs in an adult sheep only ! Although the organism is present in soil , the predisposing factor which provide optimum conditions for the organism multiplication is impairment of intestinal wall permeability .

Lesions-Macro Same lesion &symptoms of enterotoxaemia
Abdominal pain &seldom diarrhea Excessive fluid in abdominal cavity pericardial sac or in thoracic cavity Ulceration &necrosis in small intestine

Lesions-Micro Acute enteritis &may be acute inflammation in abomasum.
Ulceration &necrosis in small intestine Degenerative changes in kidney

Diagnosis :- Control & prevention
Organism is present in large amounts in some intestinal necrotic areas toxins are found in contents of small intestine & abomasum . Control & prevention By active immunity using vaccines .
