B0, short prototype coil Common effort of CEA, INFN-LASA and CERN :
to provide focus for the BT design to exercise all production steps to implement in BT production to exercise testing and to verify the design construction by CEA and LASA, test by CERN Construction completed : delivered to CERN in Sep 00 last minute change of stops sliding interface (May 01) 1st test campaign completed nd test campaign started on 2nd Oct 01 B0 test result : vacuum vessel is tight (no repairs done) cooling down in 2 wks, all test station cryogenics works 20.5 kA achieved without quench in coil, so the coil design works cold leak in thermal shield circuit, stops sliding OK, tie rods OK 19 kA quench in coil-lead connection due to conductor movement next campaign is in stability, propagation, losses etc. 10/22/2001 ATLAS RRB-T

B0, short prototype coil Examples of impact on BT construction :
the early B0 design brought collaborative spirit and focus to the magnet lab conductor: early qualification and testing improved conductor cleaning improvement to coil winding tolerances drastic improvement to impregnation (4 month extra work!) change of coil casing welding technique: EB->MIG cold mass integration: bladder technology and tooling cooling lines: less welds, line testing of whole circuits thermal shield: less welds, Al alloy, gap between panels tie rods: optimization: reshaping, testing stops: redesign, new sliding surfaces superinsulation: blanket layout and assembly instrumentation: change of sensors, thermalization etc. vacuum vessel assembly, use of frame cryostat integration: increase of clearance, procedures, many details of conductor bending, avoid turnovers, cooling pipe testing and gluing cryoring: conductor movements 10/22/2001 ATLAS RRB-T

LAr Barrel Cryostat The Barrel cryostat arrived at CERN :
Cryostat was leak-tested at CERN A leak has been discovered on the warm bulkhead "A", in the region of the "bulge“ KHI, BNL and ATLAS agreed on the provisional acceptance with reserve on the flange A, where the source of the problem was identified KHI and BNL will take actions for the repair to be done by the end of February The cover can be repaired in parallel to the integration work without delay on the agreed integration schedule Integration work has started : Cryostat fully opened Sept. 28th First Signal Feedthrough in place Oct. 8th Now 8 Feedthroughs are installed, welded and leak checked ~50% of all Feedthroughs are constructed 10/22/2001 ATLAS RRB-T
