Structure degradation in time

Structure degradation in time

Accidental demolition of a sector

Design loads change: Seismic loads: no seismic design required in construction year 0.16g ground acceleration present Partial safety coefficient for loading from its own weight increased from 1.1 to 1.35 Partial safety coefficient for snow load increased from 1.4 to 1.5 Partial safety coefficient for loading from finishing increased from 1.3 to 1.35

Structural rehabilitation directions
Removal of existing loads: Decrease specific weight of insulating materials on the roof  12% drop in value Crane bridge removal  73% drop of the total vertical load with large influence on seismic behaviour Replacing brick façade panels with curtain wall facade discharged the façade columns at 50% of the original vertical load.

Rehabilitation of weak structural elements

Conclusions Reintroduction in urban circuit of old industrial buildings requires an approach that takes into account a large number of factors : structure integration into the general urban view, choice of a minimum of rehabilitation solutions that can generate maximum effect, design utilities required by modern work comfort, minimize power consumption, minimize use of space for technical areas, minimum energy consumption for construction materials embedded into the project, minimum carbon footprint during the building lifetime, all achieved at optimum the financial costs. The building presented complies with all the requirements, and was achieved by joining together the design specialties of architecture, structure and installations. The works were completed in three months, building energy certificate showed that the chosen solution in terms of energy ranks the building in Class A energy consumption, and the goals were reached within the budget approved by the investor.
