Classifying Plants
2
Classifying Plants Scientists use two characteristics to classify plants into small groups: a) How plants transport nutrients b) How plants reproduce
3
Water and Nutrient Transportation
Vascular Plants: They have tubelike structures that connect the leaves, roots, and stem. These structures transport water and nutrients, support the leaves and stem.
4
Vascular Plants Grass Ferns Dandelions Celery Tree
5
Water and Nutrient Transportation
Nonvascular Plants: They pass water and nutrients from cell to cell. Mosses
6
Reproduction Flowers and Seeds (vascular): Flowering plants produce seeds
7
Reproduction Cones and Seeds (vascular): They make seeds and have cones instead of flowers.
8
Reproduction Vascular Plants with Spores: Some vascular plants form spores (brown dots or streaks).
9
Reproduction Nonvascular plants with Spores: Their spores form in cases at the tips of short stalks. Each spore case holds hundreds of spores.
