grandfather was a powerful religious figure known as the “Pope of Connecticut Valley;” he was groomed to succeed his grandfather
entered Yale in 1716 at 13
became his grandfather’s co-pastor in 1726 then took over 3 years later when his grandfather died
started revival known as the “Great Awakening” in the 1730’s
