Bradstreet’s Techniques
inversion—reversing the natural order of speaking allusion—reference to something well-known (historical event, biblical figure, mythology, etc.) paradox—a seeming contradiction that presents a truth couplets—consecutive rhyming lines metaphor—a comparison that does not use like or as iambic pentameter—meter with five sets (feet) of unstressed and stressed syllables
