LYRIC POETRY – poetry that expresses emotions METER – the repetition of a regular rhythm ARCHAIC LANGUAGE – consists of words that were commonly used in the past but are now considered out- of-date INVERTED SYNTAX – reversal of the expected order of words…like Yoda

Inverted Syntax “Size matters not, ... Look at me. Judge me by size, do you?” “Ready are you? What know you of ready? For eight hundred years have I trained Jedi.” “Named must your fear be before banish it you can.” “Soon will I rest, yes, forever sleep. Earned it I have. Twilight is upon me, soon night must fall.”

Iambic Pentameter METER – a regular pattern followed in poetry
IAMB – one metric foot of poetry containing two syllables – one unstressed and one stressed IAMBIC PENTAMETER – FIVE metric feet of poetry IAMBIC TETRAMETER – FOUR metric feet of poetry
