Proverbs 16:18; 18:12 18 Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before stumbling. 18:12 Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, but humility goes before honor.

Daniel 5:20 20 “But when his [Belshazzar] heart was lifted up and his spirit became so proud that he behaved arrogantly, he was deposed from his royal throne and his glory was taken away from him.

The Bible word for pride (alazoneia) signified an (alazon) a drunkard who wandered about the country making unfounded claims.

Inordinate (beyond normal limits) self- esteem.
Conceit (excessive pride). Arrogance (overbearing pride evidenced by a superior manner toward inferiors). Insolence (the trait of being rude and impertinent; inclined to take liberties).

“I want to be equal to God.”
“I want God to accept me on my terms.” “I want people to desire my beauty.” “I want people to be on my side.” “I want people to respect me, even if I have to exaggerate or lie a little.”

“I want people to be impressed (to admire me) because of my possessions.” “I want people to think of me one way, while I live another way.”

Philippians 2:3 3 Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; (1 Pet 5:6)
