2 1 Timothy 6 He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, 16 who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see. To him be honor and eternal dominion. Amen.

3 Transcendence/Otherness
God is completely separate and distinct from his creation, self-existent, not dependent on his creation for anything.

4 Immanence Immanence refers to God being present in the universe and involved with his creation, accessible to his creation.

5 AW Tozer We must not think of God as highest in an ascending order of beings starting with the single cell, then the fish, then bird, the animal, then man and angels and then God. This would be to grant God eminence or even preeminence but that is not enough. We must grant God transcendence in the fullest meaning of that word. He is wholly other. He breaks all of the categories of being and knowing.

6 Reasons To Speak of God’s Otherness
A church that has lost sight of God’s otherness has given up the specific and distinctive mark of Christ’s church. Then Jacob gave Esau bread and lentil stew, and he ate and drank and rose and went his way. Thus Esau despised his birthright. Genesis 25:34

7 Reasons To Speak of God’s Otherness
A church that has lost sight of God’s otherness unknowingly creates a God in their own image rather than worshipping the transcendent God of the Scriptures.
