Short-term non-degree training programs -- Basic computer skills -- Data quality -- Data elements and indicators -- Data utilization (for data providers and program managers at different levels -- use of data base and statistical softwares -- diverse types of health IT skills (database analysts, IT project managers, developers, etc.) Long-term degree program on public health informatics

Use of appropriate teaching methods Extensive training of trainers (TOT) ensuring availability of core trainers at regional levels

What to document? -- SOPs checklists -- User’s Manuals -- Training materials; references Important especially when there is rapid turn-over of staff Proper dissemination at all levels necessary

Development of career path for health information staff
Create positions with room for promotion Provision of competitive salary scale and benefits Monetary and non-monetary incentives (recognition, certifications, etc.)

How to generate resources for capacity building
Creation of norms for % of budget to be allocated for training Donor coordination Ensure inclusion of training activities in annual budget

How to scale-up training activities?
Establish linkages with institutions involved in training (ex., academe, NGOs)
