5-6 The angel spoke to the women: “There is nothing to fear here. I know you’re looking for Jesus, the One they nailed to the cross. He is not here. He was raised, just as he said. Come and look at the place where he was placed.7 “Now, get on your way quickly and tell his disciples, ‘He is risen from the dead. He is going on ahead of you to Galilee. These titles were promised by God to one of David’s descendants—the Messiah. Jesus is the heir of these promises. The Father publicly declared Jesus to be the Son of God with power by the resurrection (Rom. 1:4). Paul does not say that Jesus was only then made the Son of God, but that He was declared to be the Son of God with power. The resurrection was a public declaration of what had always been true. Firstfruits: He was the first man to conquer all the enemies of the human race — including death. Jesus is the prototype, and the first member of a new order of people who triumph over death. If Jesus had not been raised from the dead after living a perfect, sinless life, the only conclusion we could draw is that in the end, evil permanently wins and good is destroyed.
