10 Unit 1 – We Believe in the Holy Spirit
Pentecost p.7-10 The word Pentecost means “50th day”, (after Passover) and it’s the birthday of the Christian Church. Before that, it was the Jewish harvest festival. The people would offer the ‘first fruits’ of the harvest to the Temple, in thanks to God. Let’s read from p. 7

18 Mission Space… A space station is being organized to start a new society based on Jesus’ teachings, and they are accepting applications! You want to apply, so you write a short to the company telling them about your gifts, experiences and talents. This new society needs you! Take a few minutes and write that message in your notebook.

19 Once you’ve finished your letter, now imagine you’ve formed a small team with 3 or 4 friends. Maybe the society will accept your team! How would you convince them that your team was worthy? Jot down a few points in your notebook.

24 Gifts and Talents On a separate sheet of paper, let’s make an acrostic poem, using the letters of our name. Each letter will represent a talent or gift that we bring to the world.

29 3. Counsel (Right Judgment)
This means helping to make things into the way they should be. A good counsellor... knows how to lead others into what is right and good knows how to discover the truth beneath what people say

31 4. Knowledge This means understanding how things work and fit together, according to God's purpose. A knowledgeable person... is not easily fooled is good at solving problems provides others with the facts they need.

32 5. Fortitude (Courage) This means being brave enough to keep going, even when things get really difficult, painful or scary. video A brave person… Takes risks to do what is right Doesn’t give in to peer pressure

34 6. Piety (Reverence) This means loyalty and faithfulness to God. It also means praying, changing our ways and trusting in prayer. Pious people… Never lose faith during hard times Pray for themselves and others Find joy and strength in God

35 7. Fear of the Lord (Awe) This involves awe and wonder in God’s presence. It means realizing that God’s plan is greater than our understanding, while still trusting in it, though we don’t understand it. A person with this gift… Worships God Puts God first Accepts God’s help and control

47 Discernment This word means ‘to judge well.’ In Christian tradition it means really looking at things so that we can gather spiritual direction and understanding through them. Quietly answer the discernment questions from Activity page 3, in your notebook. These are private questions.

These are two ancient prayers that acknowledge our faith in the Trinity. These are both spoken during Mass.
