1 Material Properties

2 weak Transparent Waterproof
Material properties are qualities or features of specific materials. Materials have different properties that make them useful for different jobs. Elasticity Flexible Rigid/stiff weak Transparent Opaque Absorbent Strong Waterproof

3 Transparent Materials that are transparent are things you can see through. They are materials where light can pass through easily. Example: We use glass to make windows because it is transparent What are some other objects that are transparent?

4 opaque Materials that are opaque let little or no light through. You are not able to see through these materials. Example: We use curtains from fabric because it is opaque.

5 elastic (elasticity) Materials that’s have the property of elasticity returns to original shape after being pressed and stretched. Example: Rubber is used to make rubber bands because it is elastic.

6 Weak Materials that are weak do not hold together well or are easily broken. Example: We use paper to wrap presents because it is weak. We can tear it easily.

7 Rigid Materials that are rigid do not bend easily and holds their original shape well. Example: We use wood to make tables because it is rigid and does not bend easily

8 Waterproof Materials that are waterproof do not let water through. Example: Nylon fabric is used to make tents because it is waterproof

9 Materials that are absorbent soak up water.
Example: Towels are made out of cotton fabric because it is absorbent.

10 Materials that are flexible bend without breaking.
Example: We use leather to make shoes because it is flexible.

11 Example: We use bricks to build houses because they are strong.
Materials that are strong do not bend or break when force is applied to them. Example: We use bricks to build houses because they are strong.

12 Example: we use clay to make vases because it is easily moulded
Plasticity Materials that have the property of plasticity can be easily shaped and moulded. Example: we use clay to make vases because it is easily moulded
