2 Safety rules for the Laboratory

3 In order to make the laboratory a place of learning and discovery, it must be a safe place.

4 Safety is YOUR responsibility and that of every student in the lab.

5 Unsafe practices endanger not only you but your classmates as well.

6 If you have any questions about safety or about laboratory pocedures, be sure to ask your teacher.

7 Electrical safety

8 NEVER handle electrical equipment with wet hands.

9 Work areas, including floors and tables, should be dry.

10 Keep electrical cords away from areas where someone may trip on cords, or where the cords can tip over lab equipment.

13 Do not eat or drink in the laboratory.

14 Never taste any substances in the laboratory.

15 Alert your teacher to any chemical spills.

17 If a substance gets on your skin, rinse immediately with cool water and alert your teacher.

18 When shaking or heating a test tube containing chemicals, always point the test tube away from your yourselves and others.

34 Clean up your laboratory work area after you are finished; dispose of paper towels, etc. in their proper containers.

35 Follow your teacher’s directions regarding proper procedures for biological and chemical waste disposal.
