General Rules

Before you begin each lab,
understand what you are doing READ THE DIRECTIONS

Know how to correctly use lab equipment.
Don’t use glassware that is broken or cracked.

Always wear proper safety apparel.
Hair must be secured, apron and goggles must be worn, when working with chemicals, heat, or fire.

Know where to find and how to correctly use safety equipment.

Cut with sharp objects pointed away from you and others.

Report any accidents (or irregular occurrences) to your teacher.

Playing around causes accidents!

Absolutely no food or drink
Unless provided by the teacher!

Always clean up your lab area when you are finished
Clean the lab table Clean and return equipment Wash your hands

If a piece of electrical equipment has a frayed cord, it should be reported to the teachers and fixed before use

Never use electrical equipment if you have wet hands

If glass breaks during an experiment, inform the teacher so he or she can place the pieces in the designated broken glass container.

Only handle life science specimens under the direct supervision of your teacher.

Always wash your hands after handling life science specimens.

Use tongs to handle hot test tubes.

Never heat chemicals in a closed container.

Never touch any chemical with your bare hands.
