My Role Producer
3
12th May 2017 After initial idea development I have been able to come up with a formal proposal and treatment. This can be found on the blog link for my Producer blog. This is an important document as I have listed down what the project is and you can clearly see what I need to do to get this project rolling. I would also like to record down that my idea has been adapted to be quite simple and easy to execute to make it easy to manage alongside many other projects.

17th May 2017 I have decided to take it upon myself to undertake the production documentation myself as my crew are all occupied with other projects so this means I am able to make sure that the paperwork is all done to a certain standard. This project does involve some sound recording so I am going to designate this role to Luke Walker as this allows me to purely focus on camera during the production phase. I have spoken to Baz about this and he agrees that as the role is only minimal as there is only a few seconds of speech to be recorded.

18th May 2017 I have managed to put forward my idea to the actor I had in mind, he has said he will get back to me ASAP so fingers crossed. I have also began work on the production documents and sourcing locations.

20th May 2017 Still no reply from my actor, however, I was able to ask somebody along to one of my separate filming days for another project to shoot some Broll footage for my promotional film. The footage is good. As for sound Baz has agreed that it is best to just shoot with the URSA and this means I will only need a set of headphones + jack an XLR cable and a Shotgun Microphone. The sound, as discussed wont be too hard to manipulate as we are going to be in the studio. I have chosen this location as it is a controlled environment and means I have total control over different aspects of filming.

23rd May 2017 I have managed to put together a contingency plan for my actors just in case I cannot get any further contact with Daniel. Below are a list of contingency actors; Mark Dale, Matt Binney Daniel West Will North

26th May Location is secured, I am booked in the studio at Chesterfield College for the 9th Friday June at 9AM – as the studio is booked out in the afternoon by one of my crew members we have decided that if we run over into the afternoon it isn’t too bad as we will have the studio all day. I have began work on some studio plans for lighting and camera as I have now been to the location and had a bit of a feel for how I want to shoot my video.

30th May 2017 I have completed plans for the studio, however upon further development it has become apparent that I have underestimated how many actors I would need. Turns out I will need an entire second film crew(actors) to portray the film crew. This has put another hurdle up for me as I will also have to consider the budget and the adaptations I am going to have to make. POA – Find extra actors.

31st May 2017 Quite apparent to me today that I had under estimated the scale of the production. I have adapted my idea slightly to amend the lack of actors I have as it is unlikely that I will be able to get 7 actors all on the same day at the same time. This does not affect the outcome of my video in anyway as of yet. We can stand in as actors if necessary.

Friday 2nd June 2017 One week to film day. I have managed to secure my actor for next week, pending on his work shifts. On the plus side I have guaranteed a secondary actor to stand in if he cannot do it. I have sent a copy of my treatment over to my actors so they can familiarise themselves with the idea.

6th June 2017 I have finished all the paperwork for the shoot day and have gathered all my materials ready for Friday. This is important as I need to make sure that the day goes smoothly. I have booked equipment for the day and have decided that I am going to use two cameras and multi cam the talking scenes. I will use the URSA and a 60D and/or 7D, the redhead studio lights, LED lights, tripod, track and the dolly. XLR cable, Headphones, boom pole and shotgun microphone. By multicam’ing the whole scene it will not seem as robotic and will give more room for improvisation – which I feel this scene will benefit from.

8th June 2017 Late PM: My actor has just dropped out so I have enlisted the help of Mark Dale to act. Meeting tomorrow at 9AM college studio.

9th June 2017 Today was filming day and to start with the day started quite stressfull as my contingency actor did not turn up either so I had to enlist the help of Will North. He had previously mentioned he would do it and we decided it would be best to do his work first and then roll into my film. This worked as mine didn’t take very long to film as we had already planned what was going to happen and from here the day ran smoothly. After the shoot had finished I logged the footage onto the computer and reviewed the footage. I quickly put together a quick edit so I could see whether I needed to reshoot and if there were any continuity errors. The video is neat and looks okay. Had a few problems with the difference in the quality of the two different footage however nothing that cannot be played around with in the edit.

14th June 2017 I have completed an edit of my promo for the screening on Friday. The video looks okay and hopefully after the feedback I can see if any editing needs to be done to improve the aesthetic quality of the overall piece.
