3 Success Scholar Success Scholar distinction requires you successfully complete all graduation requirements plus: Third year of same World Language A 70 or higher average in every course taken 100 hours of Community Service Hours will be entered by each student using the x2VOL link on your Naviance account. Hours are approved approximately once a month. Senior hours due by May 1, 2018. See Guidance website for instructions on how to enter hours on x2VOL

5 The Application Process
Get information about application requirements, deadlines, and preferred methods of applying by visiting each university’s admission website. Complete the online application. Be sure to review and edit before submitting! Do not miss the deadline! If any applications requires a counselor recommendation, complete the Student and Parent information forms and provide a resume. If any applications require teacher recommendation(s), reach out to the teachers you would like to ask to write a letter. If you are using Common Application, you must “invite” your counselor and teacher/recommenders by entering their names and addresses.

7 Requesting a Transcript
All Transcripts must be requested through your Naviance account. Cost: One time fee of $30 for unlimited transcripts during your senior year. Transcripts will not be sent until the fee is paid. PAYMENT CAN BE MADE ONLINE BY ACCESSING THE TRANSCRIPT PAYMENTS LINK ON YOUR NAVIANCE FAMILY CONNECTION HOMEPAGE (Pick up your free unofficial copy in the CSHS guidance office today!)

8 The Convenience of Naviance!
Through Naviance, your counselor can view your application status for each college and submit documents on your behalf, i.e. transcripts, school reports, recommendations. Even better…YOU can see what has been submitted on your behalf!

9 Reporting ACT and SAT Scores
Colleges will NOT accept ACT or SAT Scores from your high school. You must submit your scores through your ACT or SAT account to send your scores to specific schools. Be aware, sending scores can take several weeks. Do not wait until the college application is due to request your scores be sent!

10 Counselor Letter of Recommendation
See your Counselor to discuss your recommendation. Return the Parent Information Form, Student Information Form and your resume to your counselor. No recommendation letter will be written without these documents. 3. Allow your counselor at least 3 Weeks to write your letter before it must be submitted online or mailed.

11 Teacher Letter of Recommendation
Make sure to ask the teacher before selecting the teacher as a recommender through Naviance. If a teacher isn’t listed, contact your counselor. Be sensitive to a teacher’s hesitancy. Give the teacher 3 Weeks notice. Provide the teacher with your deadlines, resume, and if it must be mailed, provide an addressed, stamped envelope! (Use the school address as the return address.) Follow up with the teacher, and write a thank you note!

12 NCAA Clearinghouse Are you hoping to play Division I or Division II college athletics? If so, you are required to register with the NCAA Clearinghouse. Request to have your transcript sent if you have not already done so! Register Online:

13 Military Opportunities
Process for military academy appointments, ideally, should have begun in the junior year. If you are interested and have not started this process, see your counselor immediately. If you are interested in ROTC programs or military enlistment opportunities, see your counselor.

15 Applying for Financial Aid
How to apply? Fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Application is available NOW! Fill out the CSS/Financial Aid Profile

16 Scholarships National and College-specific Scholarships
Check with each college for opportunities. Many Scholarships will be listed in Naviance, with links to download and print applications. Use Naviance to search for national scholarships Local scholarships (ex. Rotary Club, Southlake Women’s Club, etc.) become available in the SPRING.
