1
From eggs to beautiful butterflies
The life cycle of a butterfly as seen in class 1
2
Our first sight of the caterpillars.
Although we know that caterpillars come from eggs, we began our journey through the butterfly life cycle when our caterpillars arrived in the post. We had 4 that were about 1 to 1 ½ cm long and a really tiny one that was less than a centimetre.
3
The amazing speed of growth.
Caterpillars on their first day in class 1. Caterpillars by the end of the week.
4
The Very Hungry Caterpillars
Over the next few days Class 1 began to realise that the story by Eric Carle was closer to the truth than expected. Our caterpillars ate and grew and ate and grew and then ate and grew some more.
5
Just hanging around. After almost 3 weeks our caterpillars made their way to the top of their pot and began to hang upside down.
6
Chrysalis time The caterpillars then built their own Chrysalis while they were hanging upside down. It was amazing how quickly they did this. Then we waited.
7
Class 1’s beautiful butterflies
After a few anxious days, we finally had 4 wonderfully colourful butterflies. Unfortunately we were unlucky that the 5th did not hatch from the chrysalis.
8
