1 Application Specific Hosting Services:
A Case Study with John Burson Controller at Architecture + “I’m going to take a couple of minutes today to talk about the Application Specific Hosting business model and how it may be appropriate for some organizations. Joining me today is John Burson, Controller at Architecture Plus which is based in Monroe Louisiana. John is going to share with you his experience in moving from hosting his own Deltek software to outsourcing that function. Copyright 2009 TBS, LLC

2 Application Specific Hosting
Your software is hosted off-site by a third party You retain ownership and control of your software You select who you want to consult on your software You receive support directly from your software vendor First, just a bit of background on the subject of Application Specific Hosting. Application Specific Hosting is not the same as ASP or Subscription software solutions. “ (expand on what the concept of Application Specific Hosting is – and how it differs from ASP – and how the people that host the software specialize in hosting that particular software) Copyright 2009 TBS, LLC

4 Our evolving application hosting experience
First encountered Deltek® in 1998 through their acquisition of Harper and Shuman Initially utilized Deltek Advantage in-house Purchased Vision upgrade in 2002 Installed Vision upgrade in July 2004 off-site on dedicated Aplus.net server Positive: Allowed for remote access Negative: Difficult to secure 2005 purchased and installed a HP server and began running Vision in-house Positive: Easier to secure Negative: No remote access, Maintenance John to present this slide Aplus.net dedicated server cost $1,700 initial plus $410 per month=$2,454 or $4,153 first 6 months. First Problem: 6/15/04 Server caught SOBER VIRUS and was suspended for AUP/TOS violations Port scans coming from our server. Added AVG virus protection Second Problem: Server high jacked in Germany and loaded with Music CD’s and Movie DVD’s with German subtitles. Added Cisco PIX $2,400 plus $200 per month. Smart backup setup $100 plus $20.00/mo Feb upgraded in-house servers to rack system and purchased server from Deltek $7,821. Asked Rich Bailey why Deltek didn’t provide server service. Where was TBS at that time? Cancelled dedicated server in April, 2005 Added Deltek “Premium Support” for server at $5,000 annual fee. Remote employees could no longer access server on intranet. Back to Faxing timesheets. Deltek maintained software upgrades remotely as part of “Premium Support” Copyright TBS, LLC

5 Our final switch Looking to have a system that was Easier to maintain
More secure data and system backups Free up our internal IT resource Allow remote workers to have secure access Have similar or lower cost of ownership/operation Met TBS at Deltek Insight 2007 – Las Vegas John to present this slide June, 2007 opened branch office in Dallas, TX. Needed remote access. One employee married, moved to Oklahoma. Continued to work remotely. Needed access to accounting data base and time sheet. Still had employees in Arkansas FAX timesheets for entry into system by accounting staff. May, 2007 Met TBS at Deltek Insight 2007 – Las Vegas. Attended breakout session presented by Jay. From my experience with dedicated servers, I knew TBS would be a perfect solution to our need for remote access and solve our server maintenance problems. Copyright TBS, LLC

6 Working with the TBS Hosted Solution
Up and running in one day Plus: Our Architecture + IT personnel are free to focus on supporting our CADD applications The system is secure The software is always up to date Hardware versus hosting costs are comparable Total cost of ownership is lower John to present this slide TBS cost to Architecture+ is around 75 cents per employee per work day. A real good value for the service provided.. Copyright TBS, LLC
