How could food and water needs be mathematically estimated and items efficiently delivered to a city of a half million people (Kansas City) after an EF4 tornado?

Produce mathematical model for estimating and food and water to half a million people in KC after a EF4 tornado
Produce model for efficiently delivering food and water to KC residents after EF4 tornado
Present findings to public, disaster preparedness committee, charitable organizations

6. Project Processes: Defining
Students may aide in setting assumptions as challenge question is considered.
Teacher will use brainstorming sessions to develop questions to frame the project (assumptions), develop scope
For example, the teacher may set assumption that there will be EF3 damage one mile wide and 10 miles long in response to student questions about unpredictable damage path of tornado.
Students will identify stakeholders in project and their points of interest in project; Project managers will also be selected by students within the groups

7. Project Processes: Planning
Teacher will set milestones (i.e. math equation for food and water, develop efficient path for distribution, presentation for different stakeholders) students will sequence the completion of the milestones, activities, tasks.
Teacher will use sticky note sequencing practice activity to help students prepare for assigning tasks; this may be used for risk assessment.

8. Project Processes: Doing
Allow student managers to set up team responsibilities on paper or utilizing one technology based program.
Present team status report to teacher initially, then in class for later reports
Report dates set by teacher
Conduct mock meeting of a team to establish how to complete the impact statement (overall progress) for their own group
Present changes in writing to student plan w/impact

9. Project Processes: Reviewing
Students do round robin to compile points and items to cover. After points are ordered & assigned.
Teacher rubric evaluation, stakeholder evaluation survey
Each student will complete a RAFT journal / diary entry using teacher supplied questions to frame the entry.
