Some rates no longer scale
Already starting to see (in-time) pile-up
Obviously TE is most sensitive
FJ and XE also quite affected by pile-up
Small increase seen in J5 too

7. But this is an Upgrade session!
I believe there’s a lot we can already learn from this low-luminosity data
In time pile-up already present
Out of time pile-up will arrive any day now
Admittedly not at 1034 levels
Planned bunch separation 150 ns in 2010
In time pile-up still factor of about 10 down
But maybe enough to validate simulation?
Would be nice to have some independent check!
Could also select and study high multiplicity events
Currently running at ~1 min bias interaction per crossing
Tail of events with higher multiplicity up to ~10 (0.05 Hz)

Heavy Ions are coming
Another interesting check of system with high occupancy
RoI multiplicities with low thresholds
Interesting objects on top of large background
Potentially a useful test-bed for tweaking parameters to control ‘underlying events’
Noise cuts, Jet element thresholds
Obviously do this ‘offline’ not in real-time

Interesting times
Yes the L1Calo trigger is fundamentally working
But there’s so much more to improve and learn
Even with a relatively low integrated luminosity
Still need a large effort over the next year
Particularly before the 2011 run gets started
Ideally we should run in a stable ‘perfect’ configuration throughout 2011
Yet to define what ‘perfect’ means
What scale, calibration procedures, filters, etc
Meanwhile the Upgrade looms faster than ever
