2. Problem solving skills

3. Closure
You will be learning different kinds of science this year, about the planets, human body interactions, heredity, and waves.
We will be doing a lot of lab activities and it Is important that you know how to do them appropriately.
Science is about doing, observing, keeping accurate data, and making the correct conclusions.

5. Routine for Class Absences: Make up work is required
Copies of the assignments are on the side of the room.
The school policy is one day for each day absent. This does not count for long term assignments. No extra time will be given.
Make sure that you put you name, the assignment, and period on your paper please.

6. Routine for Class
Attention: we often work in groups doing labs and other activities. You will listen for a count to three and give me your full attention.
Late work: There is a basket on the side of the room. All late work will go into that basket. 30% will be deducted from your grade. Make sure your name and class period are on the papers.
RESPECT is EXPECTED at all times, to me and your class mates.

7. “Ations” From “The light in the attic”
Write down all the –ations you hear on your bell work sheet as I read them.
Which –ation does the poem end with?
What unpleasant thing happened in the poem?
What did the people do about it?
What IS civilization? Discuss in your groups

8. Society A classroom is a small society.
A society consists of citizens who act in accordance with expected standards of behavior.
This classroom is a place where we will encourage one another, where we will allow each other to learn, or teach, at all times.
Therefore, we are going to learn about a system of behavior that shows how humans can act when in a group.
First we will learn about two unacceptable levels today, and you will see how to identify them.
Then we will learn two acceptable levels.
You will be able to determine where YOU are in the behavior you are showing.

9. “Anarchy” What do you think Anarchy is? How can this cause problems?
This is where there is no law and order.
People can do what they want, without regard to others.
No one has rights except what they can strong arm or push.
The weaker have no rights.

11. Level B = bullying
This behavior is violating the courtesies of the classroom.
Bullying is an attempt to become the classroom leader by violating other’s rights.
It is also bothering someone else's rights.
This includes talking while the teacher is talking, or even getting up to sharpen your pencil or throw something away while instruction is going on.

12. B=Bullying Neither appropriate nor acceptable level of behavior
Bosses others
Bothers others
Breaks laws and makes own rules

13. These 2 levels are UNACCEPTABLE!!!
They will not be tolerated.

14. Level C is conformity
This means you are following the directions because you want a reward or you DON’T want to get into trouble.
This is fine, it might be you do your homework because your mom checks your grades.
This is OKAY
You are doing what you should.

15. C. = Conformity
Appropriate and acceptable
Listens
Practices
cooperates

16. Level D + Democracy
That is doing what is right EVEN IF NO ONE KNOWS!!!
You are doing it because it is the right thing to do
The only way a true democracy can survive is if people have this mind set
You help someone who is being bullied, even though it might affect you, because it is the right thing to do.
You pick up trash, even if no one is looking, because it makes our campus nicer.
