A “Win Win” for you and those you serve

What is Community Service?
Making a difference through actions of caring for others, either in the school or in the community. Community Service includes Direct service (painting a school, orphanage visits, tutoring) Indirect service (raising money for a charity, organizing a toy drive) Advocacy (promoting your cause with a bulletin board display, video, or assembly presentation)

What is NOT Community Service?
Activities for which you receive benefits (getting paid, getting out of class) Activities for which you receive course credit Activities which benefit your family or your own religious community Work experience unless in a social service setting Participation in HS activities such as Student Council, IASAS or drama productions

Fridays, 2:15 – 4:30 Permission slip needed

Riding for the Disabled
Physically handicapped children Fridays, 2:15 – 4:00 Take van to Nichada Equestrian Center Permission slip needed

ThaiCraft Fairs Assist with checkout and bag check at monthly fair trade craft sales Jasmine City (Asoke Skytrain station) Saturdays 9 – 1(once a month)

Teach English to local kids (ages 6 – 12) Sundays from 2 – 3 Sala next to Que Pasa

Maharaj Boys’ Home Orphanage for boys
Play indoor soccer and games with boys ages 10-16 Sundays at 9:00 in auxy gym at ISB

Elder Care Club Visits to local homes for the elderly
Sing, dance, chat, crafts Day TBD

Green Panthers Find ways to reduce ISB’s carbon footprint
Recycling, tree planting, eco-videos, animal rights, carrot mobs, Meets Wednesdays at lunch in 118

Special Kids Olympics 80 physically handicapped children come to ISB for a fun filled day of relay races, swimming, computer, and lunch Saturday, November 15 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. Sign ups coming in October!

How to Find Out about Service Opportunities
Read the HS Clubs and Activities Haiku page (check your “extras” tab) Attend the Club Fair at lunch on Thursday, August 28. READ the Student Bulletin! Sent daily via your isb account! Ask your friends. See Mrs. Tananone in the Community Service Office.

How to Sign Up For weekly clubs, just show up at the location
Parent Permission form needed (only one for the entire year!) for off campus activities For ThaiCraft Fairs, Habitat builds, SKO and special opportunities, sign up in the Community Service Office For something non ISB related, ask Mrs. Tananone first!

Keeping Track of your Service Hours
Get a green CS Verification form outside the CS office. Answer the 3 reflection questions. Have your advisor sign it and verify the hours Turn it in to the basket in the CS office. For ongoing activities (weekly service clubs) you only need to turn in 1 form for the whole year!

Community Service Graduation Requirement
10 hours for every year you are in the high school 40 hours total if you graduate from ISB Can be done in one year , but we encourage you to do some service every year Service completed in Middle School does not count toward the graduation requirement. No service hours counted until you turn in a completed CS verification form

CAS Requirement for IB Diploma Students
50 hours each of creativity, action, service Must be completed in grades 11 and 12 Service completed in grades 9 and 10 will not count towards CAS Meeting the CAS requirement in grades 11 and 12 automatically fulfills ISB’s community service requirement

Community Service Awards
Awarded to all students who have participated in an ongoing direct community service club 70% of the time in one year HS Awards Assembly in May Plaque awarded to seniors who have earned the CS award all 4 years
