‘more than’

2. 40-60M Says the number that is one more than a given number.
Over the past few weeks we have been looking at ‘more than’. We have been practising our number recognition and seeing if we can independently find 1, 2, 3 or 4 more!
In foundation we work from a document called ‘development matters’. This is how we assess children and help them with their next steps. This is the statement linked to our learning this week.
Development matters:
40-60M Says the number that is one more than a given number.
• Finds one more or one less from a group of up to five objects,then ten objects.

3. Recognising numbers.
We first practised recognising our numbers and counting out the correct amounts with lots of different equipment.

4. We have been practising in lots of different ways….

5. Taking number recognition outside…

6. More than.
Our F2 children then used equipment to help them find more than and recorded it in different ways.

7. 1 more than 2 is…… 3

8. Bridging past ten.
Some our of F2s are bridging past tens to find more than. They used the 100 squares to help them!

9. Parents you could help by…..
Practising ‘more than’ with different objects at home or everyday routines.
Eg. “one more crayon would be….”
“two more toys would be….”
“how many leaves are there?.....what would one more be?”
