Situation in Slovenia Women more involved in all care and domestic tasks. Women sacrifice their career advancement far more often than men. Women more often change their jobs and give up promotion due to easier reconciliation of work and family life. Men far more often work overtime. 25 % of fathers were never (!) alone (without wife/partner) with their children until the child’s first birthday. 80 % of all days of work absence due to care for ill family member are used by women. Only about 5 – 7 % of fathers use a part of parental leave. Fathers in Slovenia rarely use any flexible work-time arrangements.

Overall aim and target groups
to address and to reduce gender stereotypes in the area of equal participation of women and men in care and housework responsibilities, to develop and implement a model of a systematic gender mainstreamed community based approach in tackling these stereotypes and to improve the reconciliation of work and family life, with the emphasis on active fatherhood. Target groups: professional public and municipal decision-makers, employees, employers and trade–unions, parents of pre-school and elementary school children and their children, general public with the emphasis on fathers and young men (future fathers).

Awareness-raising activities
Social media campaign: website: (interactive questionnaire, memory game, basic information), documentary on active fatherhood (5 different aspects), 5 promotional spots on equal sharing of family responsibilities by women and men, role models – all active fathers (Mayor of Municipality of Kamnik, blogger, and rap singer), promotional gadgets (string bags, memory game, notebooks, USB sticks, bibs for babies).

Leaflets for parents to inform about father‘s rights and to encourage parents to share parental leave (260 days of parental leave in Slovenia) Health care centres, Social work centres and DM drug stores copies Leaflet

“Family-friendly Municipality”
Our goal in the future: to make every municipality in Slovenia family- friendly. Strategy of granting the certificate to municipalities that will adopt measured in favour of reconciliation of family and work-life and gender equality. Visual design and a list of possible measures will be prepared under this project.
