The scope of the course:
Lecture Outline: An understanding of compound semiconductor materials and devices is provided through this course along with a brief review on the fundamental physics on the existing optoelectronic devices. We learn about compound semiconductor materials and their epitaxy, and related physics such as energy band, optical processes of absorption and recombination in bulk and quantum well structures, compound-based electrical and optical devices, and their applications. The scope of the course: Significance of Compound Semiconductor vs. Elemental Semiconductor? Materials Issue – Compounds and Strained Layers Physical issue – Energy Band, Quantum-Size Effect, Electrical/Optical Properties Device issue – Design of LD/LEDs (5) Topic presentation (team/individual-based)
