2. What the heck is persuasion?
Trying to convince someone to think or act a certain way.

3. Repetition
the act of repeating; repeated action, performance, production, or presentation.

4. Peer Pressure
social pressure by members of one's peer group to take a certain action, adopt certain values, or otherwise conform in order to be accepted.

5. Transfer
TRANSFER: The use of symbols, quotes or images to create a feeling in the audience that is then (hopefully) transferred to the product.
EXAMPLE: An image of an American flag might be used in an advertisement for insurance – designed to make the audience feel patriotic, secure and safe – and then those feelings get associated with the product.

6. Loaded Words
"Loaded" words are words that are likely to incite a conflict because they are hurtful and usually cause a negative or defensive reaction.
"Sticks and stone may break my bones, but words will never hurt me."
peace, war, patriotism, freedom, rebellion, slavery, justice, unity, abolish, failed, duty, hope, basically any word that has any deep emotion in it.

7. Stereotype
Generalizations about people that are based on limited, sometimes inaccurate, information (from such sources as television, cartoons or comic books, minimal contact with one or more members of the group, second-hand information)
Stereotypes can be either positive or negative, but they are all unfair and misleading.
All men are strong, all women like to shop

8. Cause-Effect
Cause – thing, person, condition, or event responsible for an action or a result
Effect – result

9. Snob Appeal
qualities intended to appeal to a sense of snobbery in people and make them want to be part of or have something
an example of snob appeal would probably be a wealthy man driving a new Alexis or Chrysler or a happy girl getting a new ipad touch.

10. Emotional Appeal

11. Testimonial
TESTIMONIAL: Testimonial is any advertisement in which a person speaks on behalf of a product.
EXAMPLE: I tried Whizzo brand floor polish and it got my floors super clean!

12. Bandwagon
BANDWAGON: The basic idea behind the bandwagon approach is “EVERYONE is doing it, and you should too”.
EXAMPLE: Everyone in Lemmingtown is behind Jim Duffie for Mayor. Shouldn't you be part of this winning team?
