25 WDMA Canadian Building and Energy Code Update
History CSA A440S1 developed as a Canadian supplement to NAFS 2008 Performance calculations for CSA A moved to A440S1 A440 Technical Committee worked to align performance calculations with National Building Code A440S1-09 believed to be aligned with NBC 2010 WDMA Canadian Building and Energy Code Update

26 WDMA Canadian Building and Energy Code Update
Implementation Once implemented the A440S1-09 resulted in higher wind and water load requirements than the CSA A440.1 standard previously required Consultation with building code officials, fenestration manufacturers, and other stake holders the A440 technical committee agreed to review the A440S1 supplement document WDMA Canadian Building and Energy Code Update

27 WDMA Canadian Building and Energy Code Update
Review A440 technical committed to review A440S1 The water pressure requirements for all building types was found to be higher than previously required The wind load pressure requirements for Part 9 low-rise buildings were also found to be higher than previously required WDMA Canadian Building and Energy Code Update

28 WDMA Canadian Building and Energy Code Update
Revision The calculations in A440S1 were reviewed and revised to fall more in line with previous values The A440 technical committee agreed to the changes and the A440S1-09 document for use with NAFS-08 was revised and will be sent out for public review The A440S1-15 document for use with NAFS-11 was completed and will also be sent out for public review WDMA Canadian Building and Energy Code Update

Moving Forward CSA A440S1-09 and A440S1-15 went out for public review in early May The documents will both be published later this year Both documents results in identical performance requirements Fenestration Canada will be updating the NAFS online calculator to launch as soon as the documents are published WDMA Canadian Building and Energy Code Update

32 WDMA Canadian Building and Energy Code Update
Moving Forward British Columbia building code has already updated the wind and water requirements for Part 9 low-rise buildings in BC. The Fenestration Canada NAFS calculator has been updated to include a link to a PDF look up table for the BC requirements The Fenestration Canada NAFS calculator will be updated to include the BC calculation when the A440S1 changes are made WDMA Canadian Building and Energy Code Update
