What is CIVINET? EC funded project Objectives:
Establish 5 city networks in seven member states: France; Italy; Spain and Portugal; Slovenia; and UK & Ireland. Ultimate goal is a larger number of interlinked networks. Timescale: 3 years Start Date: December 2009 EC support to UK&I Network: 152,000 euros Demonstrating Best Practice in Sustainable Transport l 30/03/2010 l Winchester l Chris Hadfield

Coordination with other CIVITAS projects
CIVINET will be integrated into the wider family of projects within the CIVITAS Initiative CIVINET will become a member of the CIVITAS Dissemination Liaison Group Web space will be made available on the CIVITAS website to host the National Network webpages National Network activities will be promoted at the CIVITAS Forum EC will be involved in National Network activities and will approve Network Activity Plans

The UK & Ireland Network is a front runner within CIVINET Positives and Negatives Certain aspects of the all the Networks need to be consistent Eg Terms of Reference Alignment of timescales Financial input Increased resource means more efficient delivery Demonstrating Best Practice in Sustainable Transport l 30/03/2010 l Winchester l Chris Hadfield

Aims Promote the CIVITAS approach Disseminate lessons from the CIVITAS projects and share best practice across all 8 technical areas Offer a focus for dialogue between local authorities, government departments and European Commission Offer advice on availability of European funding Encourage involvement in CIVITAS - To share experiences and best practice Demonstrating Best Practice in Sustainable Transport l 30/03/2010 l Winchester l Chris Hadfield

Who can join the Network?
Full membership is open to all regional and local authorities in the UK and Ireland Associate membership is available to research centres, Universities and any other public or private body with an active interest in sustainable urban transport Observer status has been granted to DfT, Welsh Assembly, Scottish Assembly, DoT Ireland and LGA - To share experiences and best practice Demonstrating Best Practice in Sustainable Transport l 30/03/2010 l Winchester l Chris Hadfield
