Edward’s mother still works on the dumpsite
She scavenges for recyclables among the rubbish because she can find no other work It is very dirty and dangerous! Maribou storks and pigs also find what food they can

But, at least Edward is in school
Edward is still able to go to school thanks to gifts like yours to the Tent of Refuge His mother is very happy because it means he has hope for a job in the future

Toys taken last May We were able to take a whole suitcase of toys for the project last year

The family’s plight The father abused the children and was addicted to alcohol & drugs so she left him She has diabetes and the medicine is expensive She has no qualifications and cannot find work except taking in washing

The family’s accommodation
They only have one room for sleeping & living There is no electricity or running water The roof leaks They keep being made homeless because they can’t pay the rent Typical housing in Dandora

A dinky car No radio No TV No internet No phone

How the Tent of Refuge has helped
Paying for the children’s school dinners Setting Mama Nesh up in a small business selling clothes and shoes Help to recover & not be scarred for life from early experiences

Saturday food She has been helping to prepare the food at the Tent of Refuge on a Saturday They all get a good meal on Saturdays! Typical meal of ugali (maize meal), cabbage with onions & tomatoes and a little beef

Prayer & counselling Children pray and God hears at the Tent of Refuge

God is giving them hope & a future
Children learn that God loves them at the Tent of Refuge They also get practical help They are motivated to work hard & succeed For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, …. plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29 v 11

Mercy & Anthony will be needed to support the family
As soon as Mercy & Anthony finish school, they will be needed to support the family It is a big responsibility for ones so young – currently 17 & 16
