Research - Sustainability / recycling
Sustainable fashion / textiles How the fashion / textiles industry have become more sustainable What are the effects of this industry on the environment etc. Sustainability and the environment What effects things have on the environment i.e. global warming, pollution, too much waste (landfills) etc. How we can reduce this i.e. recycling, find a more sustainable way of doing things. Positive effects of recycling etc.
4
Further research Possible things to search: What products we waste:
How much we waste What changes can we make How long does waste take to decompose etc. How recycling can make a difference Aluminium Glass Plastic Clothing Food Etc.
5
Information / facts 1 recycled tin can would save enough energy to power a television for 3 hours. 1 recycled glass bottle would save enough energy to power a computer for 25 minutes. 1 recycled plastic bottle would save enough energy to power a 60-watt light bulb for 3 hours. The unreleased energy contained in the average dustbin each year could power a television for 5,000 hours. It takes around 2,700 litres of water to make a single cotton t-shirt. If all cans in the UK were recycled, we would need 14 million fewer dustbins. £36,000,000 worth of aluminium is thrown away each year. It has been estimated that up to 80% of the contents of our dustbins could be easily recycled or composted.
6
Glass is 100% recyclable and can be used again and again.
Glass that is thrown away and ends up in landfills will never decompose. Around 30% of clothing hasn’t been worn in over a year. Cost of this unused clothing is around £30billion/ Plastic can take up to 500 years to decompose. Most plastic shopping bags are used only once and a plastic bag can take more than 100 years to decompose! 25 two litre pop bottles can be recycled into an adult-size fleece jacket.

Clothing Aluminium Nappies Plastic Glass Waste First idea: Poster Different section for each type of waste Simple/basic design Infographic
9
Ideas / developement What I want to do: Combine textiles and graphics
A piece that will make people interact with it i.e. a book, use different textures. Use recycled materials? Target audience = kids

Final design A book made out of fabric
