Introduction: Animal Population in KSA
Estimated number of farm animal in KSA is > 20 Million Sheep population is 69% of the total animal population (14.5 million) Goats are 22% of the total animal population (4.5 million). Cattle Population is about 3% of total animal population and most of them are under intensive rearing system in Dairy Farms (0.7 million). Camels are about 6% of the general animal population (1.2 million). FMD in KSA

Current Epidemiological Situation
Two months earlier, multiple outbreaks had been reported to the Central Emergency Unit confirming FMD as the suspected disease. Special Epidemiological teams Had been nominated to investigate the outbreaks. Central Veterinary Lab detected FMD virus serotype (A). Small ruminants Vaccine in use does not contain serotype A (O-Manisa, O-3039 or O-Panasia2, SAT-2 Eretria) amendment had been done using the cattle vaccine (O-Manisa, O-3039, SAT-2 Eriteria, Asia-1 Shamir, A Iran-05 and A Saudi Arabia-95) in concentration of ≥ 6PD50 which controlled the outbreaks. Phase Two (18 Months) Movement Restriction of cattle & Compulsory Vaccination. Movement Restriction of Small Ruminants & Optional Vaccination. Phase Three (18 Months) Movement Restriction of All Farm Animals. Compulsory Vaccination of All Farm Animals. Phase Four (12 Months) Mass Survey to Insure that all farm Animals are free without vaccination. FMD in KSA
