2 Welcome 3rd Grade Parents! Ms. Harris Sycamore Principal

3 IREAD-3 Information The published testing window is from March 13-March 17, 2017 Detailed reports should be sent to schools April 2017 Students who do not pass IREAD-3 in March will attend a mandatory remediation program in the summer and will have a second opportunity to retest Tentative dates for the summer remediation program June 5-June 23 IREAD-3 test was on 21, 22, and 23 Typically held at Maple Elementary Typically bus transportation is provided Students who do not pass the March or June administration of IREAD-3 will receive reading instruction in Grade 3 in the fall. Parents will conference with Ms. Harris to and the current third grade teacher to develop an individualized reading plan. Students who do not pass the March or June administration of IREAD-3 will be officially reported as a third grader, and will fully participate in the IREAD-3 assessment the following year.

4 What is IREAD-3? The purpose of the Indiana Reading Evaluation And Determination (IREAD-3) assessment is to measure foundational reading standards through grade three Paper-Pencil Format There are three parts of IREAD-3

6 When is IREAD-3? The assessment will be given on March 13-17, (This is the week before Spring Break) 5 Day Testing Window Attendance is crucial during this time Please do NOT plan appointments and scheduled absences during this time.

7 Part 1- Foundations and Vocabulary
25-35% of total score Beginning, Middle, and Ending Sounds Identifying Synonyms and Antonyms Using Context Clues to determine the meaning of unknown words in a text Homophones, Homographs, Multiple-Meaning Words Word Parts Prefixes, Suffixes, Base Words

9 Part 2- Nonfiction 30-40% of total score
Comparing and responding to grade-level informational text by making connections and/or predictions while reading, and identifying important information within text Examples: Problem and Solution Cause and Effect Main Idea

11 Part 3- Literature 30-40% of total score
Questions may include comparing and responding to grade-level literary text by recalling and/or describing story elements and identifying the theme and narrator of different literary genres Plot Character Traits and Development Problem and Solution
