African Americans in Paris Spring Break Course

My Contact Info and Bio Dr. Austin, 104 Walker Hall, Director of the African American Studies Program and Associate Professor of Political Science UF Professor since 2001 Third time teaching the African Americans in Paris class Conversational French Teaching and research interests in minority politics, American government, public policy, and African American Studies.

The Cost ($2,463 for Undergraduates) Includes:
Round-trip travel from the Charles de Gaulle airport to the hotel Accommodations at a three-star Parisian hotel Breakfast daily, a welcome and farewell dinner A subway pass Tickets to all sites An on-site orientation Pre-departure materials Computer and internet access at the hotel and API Center

Does Not Include: Airfare Luggage fees Medical and life insurance
Personal expenses (passport fees, spending money, most meals) You will need a passport, but not a visa. You do not have to speak French I will meet with the students at least once before we leave to assist with flight arrangements, get your contact information, and provide information about things you’ll need to take.

Look at to see if you qualify for a study abroad scholarship. Look at KzVA for videos from last year’s class.

Florida Opportunity Scholars
Students on a full scholarship (FOS), can get more financial aid if they request a budget for the trip from the International Center at the Hub to send to financial aid. This budget should include everything you need to pay for. After you send the budget, your financial need will increase.

The Class Consists Of: 2 or 3 online lectures (10 minutes each)
Online documentaries ( minutes each) One Textbook: African Americans in the City of Light by Tyler Stovall 4 or 5 papers (depending on whether you receive 2 or 3 credits) Four are 3-4 pages each for students getting 2 credits. Students receiving 3 credits must write an addition 8-12 page paper that is due before the spring semester ends.

Sunday March 5– Arrival and hotel check-in, orientation, dinner Monday March 6 – Breakfast, 3 hour Black Paris bus tour, lunch, Versailles Palace tour, free evening Tuesday March 7 – Breakfast, Tour of Alexandre Dumas’ and Josephine Baker’s homes in suburban Paris, lunch, free evening Wednesday March 8 – Breakfast, Tour of Montmarte and Goutte D’Or neighborhoods, lunch, free evening Thursday March 9 – Free Travel Day Friday March 10 – Breakfast, Black art tour at the Louvre, lunch, Boat cruise of River Seine Saturday March 11 – Breakfast, Tour of Paris Parliament, lunch, dinner Sunday March 12 - Departure
